Elastic painting/elastic guitar

We did this about 2 months (he was 29 months) ago and I totally forgot to post about it. It’s inspired by the elastic guitar (elastic around a cardboard box), I took a little box of Yop (drink yogurt) and put some elastic around so he could make music, he liked it. All the elastics made different sounds, he was surprised about that and pinched the elastics for a bit.

Then I asked him if he wanted to paint with it, he looked at me confused. So I set him up and explained as I went.

He doesn’t like putting anything over his clothes so that was a bit of a battle. He finally agreed but took it off a minute later. I told him his shirt would be full of paint as it splatters a lot. He asked to take it off, ok that’ll work!

I showed him how to put paint on the elastic and told him to pinch them like before. He pinched the one I had loaded with paint.

After, he took the brush and literally took a stab at it! He seemed to like aiming through the elastics, bonus motor skills work, pinching and aiming!

It did splatter quite a bit so he ended up putting his apron back on to protect his pants. Yep it splatters that much but he had fun.

He even helped with his own clean up, baby wipes work well to remove acrylic craft paint! He’s even got some in his hair lol.

Here are the results!

So we’ll do it again but outside in the summer ;)

If you do this, we’d LOVE to see a photo of it. Email it to us or post it on our Facebook page. We’d love to do a Facebook album, a Pinterest board and a page of your creations :-)

Valerie constantly is thinking about twists to the traditional arts, crafts and recipes to make them her own and is inspiring others while doing so. Outside of the blogging world, her main activity is Nico, with the occasional TV show (non-toddler related) and casual game here and there.
