Earth Day 2012 – planting a tree

Since Nico is young, we weren’t planning anything, but after nap time, I remembered that a hardware store was giving away little trees today if an Eco product was bought, so we went, bought ourselves a new Eco water hose and Nico got a cute little tree by the nice man at the till. He was thrilled! He was holding it strongly but carefully since it was a cold windy day. He tried to climb in the van with it but I told him to put him on the floor, he tried to make it stand (it was just a little seedling with roots in a plastic bag), it was cute.
I told him to lay it down, it was too small to stand, he did so very carefully :)
On the way home he wanted to stop at one of his favorite restaurants for dinner, so we did. When we got home we got our dirt bag and pot out.

We put some rocks at the bottom since it didn’t have draining holes, a little dirt and…

…put our tree in and packed more dirt around it as per the tree bag instructions.

He was very proud of his little tree. Nico knows he will be in charge to water it and taking care of it. He wanted to plug the new hose and water it right away, lol. The dirt was very wet so he didn’t have to, but at least he was doing his job. I asked him what he was gonna call his tree, he said: l’arbre (the tree in French). I tried to make him understand I meant a name like he has, but nope, l’arbre it was. Got to love his certainty of things :)

If you do this, we’d LOVE to see a photo of it. Email it to us or post it on our Facebook page. We’d love to do a Facebook album, a Pinterest board and a page of your creations :-)

Valerie is the creative mind behind "Glittering Muffins", stay-at-home mom of Nico, a little dynamo that is bursting with energy. He also is the inspiration behind the blog (and the name) with his keen interest in cooking, baking and, well, glitter. Valerie constantly is thinking about twists to the traditional arts, crafts and recipes to make them her own and is inspiring others while doing so. Outside of the blogging world, her main activity is Nico, with the occasional TV show (non-toddler related) and casual game here and there.
