Fuzzy shirt cushion (mini body pillow)

Last night (April 23rd), I got my brand new sewing machine out that I had bought on Valentines day. I had not been wanting to take out due to all my mishaps/curse I’ve had with sewing machines… Long story but the short version is I killed 3, including 2 new ones where the motor just stopped and a 4th one I didn’t even touch that started bugging, so, let’s just say I really have no luck with them. After Nico got to bed, I did it! I got it out and sewed something I wanted to make him for a while. As expected about 5 cm in the project, the thread broke on top and it got stuck underneath…I thought here we go again… Threaded it back up and started again… and made it to the end with no more problems! YAY! I hope this means the sewing machine curse is over :) But I digress, let’s get back to the project here.
I have this shirt Nico found on my “doesn’t fit too well” shelf that he loves, he says it’s doux (soft in French), since he found it, he’s slept with it several time, using it as a blanket but also trying to use it a bit like we would a body pillow but it wasn’t puffy enough to do so. I figured I would make him a pillow with the shirt.

I cut the front like a big rectangle. I only cut the left, right and top, don’t be fooled by the line under the heart, I thought about it after I chalked up the shirt but before I cut it up, so yay!

I folded it in two, outside in, so inside out. Used a few pins to hold it together.

Got sewing all around…

…but made sure to leave a non sewn part at the end of my rectangle big enough to fit my hand (see the black circle on the lower right, that’s where I left the hole). Once it was sewn I flipped it back outside out and put some cushion batting (you could use an old pillow filling).

Then I sewed the remaining hole by hand, closed by little stitches.

And voilà!

This is a good way to have the little ones feel secure with a shirt from mommy (or daddy) they love and very inexpensive and easy to make :)

If you do this, we’d LOVE to see a photo of it. Email it to us or post it on our Facebook page. We’d love to do a Facebook album, a Pinterest board and a page of your creations :-)
