Kids on the Go – Story Book Island, Rapid City, SD

Hi, I’m Cari from Time for Play.

We discovered this wonderful park while on vacation in South Dakota. I just had to share our experience with you all. If you are ever in Rapid City, this is a must do! If you have been a follower of my blog, you know I am all about a bargain, (or free is even better). This great park is FREE! Yep, that’s right. Let me show you what we discovered while we were there.

Welcome to Storybook Island, Rapid City, South Dakota. Where you can walk through life-size story book characters.

Watch out for the troll living under the bridge.

The 3 Billy Goats Gruff are waiting to cross the bridge too.

The Three Little Pigs, can you spot the Big Bad Wolf?

We watched a live play, Cinderella, in the little theater there. It was put on by a local college acting group and was very cute.

“Thanks for visiting” Briar Rabbit

The park is open 9 a.m to 7 p.m daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day and they do a special Holiday Celebration in December too. The park is completely free. You are not allowed to bring in outside food into the park but there are lots of picnic benches and large shade trees for you to bring your own lunch and eat at just outside of the park. They do have a couple of concession stands selling popcorn, ice cream, nachos, hot dogs and some breakfast items. Nothing is over $5.00. Every hour they have a live play in the children’s theater that you can watch for 1.00 per person. The plays are put on by the local college theater group. We happen to catch the play “Cinderella” on our visit. There are many more attractions to view other than the above pictures. They also put on several summer camps and you can have your special event there as well. You can visit their website, Storybook Island, for more information.
