Kids on the Go – Hess-Hathaway Park, Waterford Township, MI
YAY! it’s me again, PlayDrMom. And this time I get to share one of our favorite parks to visit. My kids lovingly refer to this park as the “Farm Park” because not only can they enjoy an awesome playground area there, but it also has a FARM!
Hess-Hathaway Park 825 S. Williams Lake Road Waterford, Mi 48327 Park is FREE OF CHARGE Summer Hours (April 16 – October 14): 10am-8pm, 7 days a week Winter Hours (October 15 – April 15): 10am – 4 pm, closed Wednesdays & Thursdays
The playground area is TONS of fun. It is surrounded by a fence with a gate, which is a great safety feature. It is an “all kids playground” because it has ramps so that kids with limited mobility can still enjoy the play area. There are several different ways for kids to climb, balance, hang, and slide. Perfect for practicing lots of different large motor skills!
There is also a large sand area … with small “diggers” that kids can manipulate on their own. The play area has different types of swings … 2 for handicapped children, 2 bucket type for young kids, 2 regular swings, and 2 tire swings! There is also a cute maze area just the right size for kids.
Then, across the parking lot is the farm area. On the way there, you’ll see a small building … which has bathrooms! Always a plus when playing with kids!!!
The farm has turkeys, chickens, sheep, goats, pigs, and bunnies. It’s small, but perfect for young children to get a chance to see & hear (& smell!) the animals!
In addition the the amazing “All Kids Playground” and the “USDA Animal Farm Exhibit” the park also has various pavilions to rent, a softball field, sand volleyball courts, walking/hiking trails, 4 horseshoe pits, hosts birthday parties and group celebrations, and has several community events throughout the year.

Nico would be in paradise there, a farm and a park! Sadly with all the heat waves we had in the summer we only went to the park twice
I know what you mean, Val … That’s why we didn’t get there until September this year!!!
There is a great feature at the park that I forgot to mention in the post … A covered area with benches right in the middle of the playscape area. Great for a break from the sun on hot days or for sitting with younger sibs.
Oh that’s great about the shaded area! Our closest park with the water pads/water sprinklers is full blast in the sun and wind so he could have gotten serious sunburn even with sun screen since he’s so light skin, like Honor.
