Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum is an amazing combination of an arcade and museum … literally PACKED with a huge collection of coin-operated games. “Some are exceptionally rare, and others were built specifically for the museum. All have to be seen to be believed. It is impossible to see everything in one trip.” The owner, Marvin Yagoda, is truly a kid at heart and surely knows the importance of play!
There’s a ton of things to do and see for children of all ages. I love to wander around and look at all the old circus posters on the walls and marvel at the vintage games. My son, Henry, who is 6 loves to play the more contemporary video games and earn tickets to be turned in for prizes. There’s also a snack bar to grab a bite to eat (popcorn, nachos, pizza) and get a drink (soda pop or slushies) while you are there.
The Museum is open Monday thru Thursday from 10am to 9pm, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 11pm, and Sunday from 11am to 9pm. It is located at 31005 Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills, MI just south of 14 Mile (behind a large strip mall). Admission is free, but games cost $0.25 to $1.00 each to play.
If you are in Michigan I strongly advise you put it on your “must-do” list! And while you are there make sure you try to BEAT THE CHICKEN!
