Valentine’s Day cornstarch decorations (with glitter)

Valentine's Day cornstarch decorations (Jan. 4 & Jan. 10, 2014) After Christmas was done we decided to keep one of the small trees out and decorate it according to the different holidays or seasons going on. Our first holiday after Christmas is Valentine’s Day! Our first craft for our tree had to be what I saw on the NurtureStore around Christmas time, a DIY clay heart bunting! I just loved the look of it and knew I had to find some reason to try it, this was the first chance I had to do so.

Valentine's Day cornstarch decorations - making So we followed her recipe but turns out our glue was too thick (as you can see in the top photo), so to help things along we added water until we got the right texture because as you can see on the bottom photo all we had was wet crumble.

Valentine's Day cornstarch decorations - cuttingWe did half the batch then our cookie sheet was full. So we waited till those were dried and a few days later we decided to cookie cutter cut the second half (I had kept it in a sealed baggy).

Valentine's Day cornstarch decorations - adding glitterBefore we started rolling we decided to add red glitter! We just kneaded in and rolled it out like we did for the first batch.

Valentine's Day cornstarch decorations - pizza cutterFor the glitter batch he decided to roll it out with his crocodile rolling pin, cut out a few hearts, even really tiny ones and he played with his shark pizza cutter (plastic wheel!) cutting away the left overs. It’s a really nice and smooth dough to play with :)

Valentine's Day cornstarch decorations Unfortunately the water seems to have made them crack a little when they dried out, but I put tacky glue in the cracks and it holds fine.

If you don’t have a tree you can still make it and hang it to decorate door/window frames, banisters, your walls or give them out as a gift :)
We’d love to see your version and where you decorate with it, so please share back!

If you do this, we’d LOVE to see a photo of it. Email it to us or post it on our Facebook page. Don’t forget to also follow us on Pinterest and our “Around the World in 12 Dishes” series also has its own Pinterest boards for each country. We’d love to do a Facebook album, a Pinterest board and a page of your creations :)
