Taking a semi summer break
As you may have noticed we’ve been posting less and less, the reason for that is that we are moving from Montreal to Calgary, next weekend! So to be able to organize the move and settle in once there, we have been slowing things down and we will keep it like that until fall. In the meantime, though, we will continue posting Around the World in 12 Dishes because we have to eat anyways, lol. Kids … Read entire article »
Papier mâché hen challenge
A few months back Molly Moo published a picture of a very cool papier mâché Hen that she had made at her papier mâché course. This precipitated a Hen Craft Challenge which Alex & I agreed to take part in, and of course Nico helped a little and also requested his own so we have three hens for you. We printed our pattern on cardstock and I assembled them. We used basic flour/water glue for our hens … Read entire article »
Toilet paper roll building blocks
(April 11, 2013) Nico loves when we buy a big pack of toilet paper because it’s a nice seat in the shopping cart. Normally he brings it in the house and the bathroom, then he’s happy to have done his job. Today, before dinner, he wanted to open the whole pack and play with it, since we had ordered in, we just played until it arrived. He learned that he had to put them on straight … Read entire article »

Read entire article »

Planting a flower bed with a toddler
(June 19, 2012) We have 2 flower beds in the backyard and we decided to put flowers in one of them. So we bought already grown flowers and also seeds. Nico and my mother (her name is Linda, Nico calls her Dada) decided one day to get to work, well, she did and of course, he insisted on helping. She already had cleaned it up since it had an old rose bush and some poison … Read entire article »

Counting to share a sweet surprise
At the end of December 2012, we had made DIY Cadbury clusters (Knusperflocken) while Alex was off work and we had so much we decided to share with Alex colleagues for their return to work/new year start as a sweet little surprise Nico chose a pack of appropriately themed cellophane bags from the dollar store, then Alex and Nico sat and counted the clusters one at a time as they put them in the … Read entire article »

Read entire article »
Easy summer fruit cake
For my birthday this year, I wanted a cake that I had over 15 years ago, yes I still remember it because it was that good! It’s super easy and quick to make. We made it after diner and 30 minutes (little one’s help tends to delay things, lol) later we were having it. Nico helped with pretty much every step and here is how we did it: Nico insisted on washing and cutting all the … Read entire article »

Read entire article »

DIY Cadbury clusters (Knusperflocken)
(Dec. 26, 2012) Alex had asked his mom to bring things from his grandma who passed away a few months before Nico was born. One thing she brought was recipes and this was one of them. After he translated it, I realized it sounded a lot like those yummy chocolate raisin Cadbury clusters. All we had to do is add a few things. We used a mix of dark and semi sweet chocolate since we … Read entire article »
