Toilet paper roll building blocks
(April 11, 2013) Nico loves when we buy a big pack of toilet paper because it’s a nice seat in the shopping cart. Normally he brings it in the house and the bathroom, then he’s happy to have done his job. Today, before dinner, he wanted to open the whole pack and play with it, since we had ordered in, we just played until it arrived. He learned that he had to put them on straight … Read entire article »

Grab a bag! (motor skills game)
(Jan 8, 2013) As he does many times a day, Nico went downstairs to see grandma. About 5 minutes later, my mother calls me over to see Nico’s new game. She put some smaller reusable bags in a big plastic tub and gave him the hand grabber and had him grab bags with it. It takes lots of hand strength and coordination and he was pretty good at it, having fun and working on motor … Read entire article »

Time With Papa – Building A Little Swing
(April 15, 2012, 31 months old) There is a time in the life of a toddler, when just sitting on the floor on the deck is not exactly enough anymore. So it came as a very nice coincidence that a local hardware store had a really cute Hollywood swing in Nico’s size on offer, so out we went, bought it, brought it back and then, of course it was the time for the men of … Read entire article »

Nico’s first pool experience (+ maman’s 80s swimming lesson)
How did you learn to swim? Well, I followed swimming lessons around 4-5 yo and did really well. Ok that’s only partially true, did so well because I learned at 3 yo. How you ask, well remember this was 1980 (did I just tell you how old I am? Oh well, lol) and people were a LOT more liberal with kids and what was dangerous or not. So we were living in New-Brunswick at the time … Read entire article »

Sensory box – weather and animals/bugs that fly
So we were working on a project for this weather blog hop and Nico was having fun with the batting while I was simultaneously working on another project needing batting (might as well while it’s out). Even thought at first he didn’t want to touch it with his hand… He liked tearing it apart and we talked about how it reassembled a cloud like in the sky. We also talked about what else is in/comes from … Read entire article »

Rainbow painting surprise!
The other day I bought a Rainbow Art Kit at the thrift store, brand new, not open. I had never seen one like this before, so I had no clue how to use it. Since we bought it, he kept bugging me to use it, so after a few days, I gave in and brought it out. There were several brush sizes and the hard paint pucks were glued to the tray, so he dipped the … Read entire article »

Ice cream tub sorting/stacking
He came up with this one on his own, I kept the tubs for paint mixing when I repaint furniture. He got the tubs, the blocks and we asked him if he could sort them by color. He did. When that was done he wanted to stack them of course (he loves stacking!)… He wasn’t tall enough so he went and got the little steppy stool and stacked higher! (You can see 3 more behind him on … Read entire article »
