Kids on the Go! – Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum, Farmington Hills, MI

I’m back again to share a wonderfully fun place that’s completely unique and a truly special place in Michigan.  Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum is an amazing combination of an arcade and museum … literally PACKED with a huge collection of coin-operated games.  ”Some are exceptionally rare, and others were built specifically for the museum.  All have to be seen to be believed.  It is impossible to see everything in one trip.”  The owner, Marvin Yagoda, is … Read entire article »

Kids on the Go – U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville, AL

Kids on the Go – U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville, AL

I am so happy to be guest writing for this series!  I have tons of local (Michigan) places I want to share, but funny enough, the first place I have gotten a chance to visit and blog on is out-of-state.  While on our summer road trip as a family, we made a stop at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. I had never been to the museum, and neither had the kids (Henry is … Read entire article »

Sensory play – Cloud dough

Sensory play – Cloud dough

Ok I’ve been seeing this around for a while and avoiding it, thinking Nico wouldn’t play with it anyways (he doesn’t like touching stuff like that). Most people I saw trying this had older kids, but after 2 months of seeing how much fun everyone was having, I gave in and gave it a try. I used Tinkerlab‘s recipe and it worked really well. After measuring and adding all the ingredients (impromptu math/number lesson), he liked … Read entire article »

Discovering craft scissors

Discovering craft scissors

Nico had been kind of obsessed with anything “cut cut”, be it scissors or knives (of course we would never even think of giving him any of that, I mean obsessed with wanting them), so when Valerie and her mom started to work on the storage room turned spare bedroom turned storage room turned craft room, we found Valerie’s collection of Fiskars craft scissors, you know the ones that make nicely fancy cuts and corners … Read entire article »

Marshmallow fun

Marshmallow fun

A couple months back, Nico was 28 months old, I decided to pull out marshmallows and toothpicks for a quick activity. I showed him to poke the toothpick in the marshmallow because his first instinct was to eat them, lol. I built a few things, we talked about shapes and what I was making while he ate them With the mini marshmallows he was having a hard time… …so I pulled out the jumbo ones! (I just … Read entire article »

Sensory bath – kitchen fun in the tub!

Sensory bath – kitchen fun in the tub!

Found this new blog the other day, Growing A Jeweled Rose, a mom of 2 adorable little girls showing us a bunch of different fun activities. One activity stuck to my mind: Sensory bath! Nico has been against baths for about the last year or so, only wanting to take showers, but lately he’s been wanting to take baths, so I thought this would be great for him! I was trying to think what kinda … Read entire article »

Off to the farm…

Off to the farm…

So after visiting the butterfly house for a good 45 minutes, we went to see the little farm on the same propriety. It’s an educational farm, where they offer tours and activities for school group, of course on a Sunday (the day we went) they don’t do those but you still can do around and look/pet the animals. So we went in and looked at the informative stations first. They had a wheat to bread, a cow … Read entire article »

A visit to the butterfly house

A visit to the butterfly house

On October 9th 2011 (so pre-blog era) we went to visit a butterfly house (the place is called Ferme Guyon and they are also on Facebook.). I don’t know how many of those exist out there but I had never heard of one before. They are housed in a greenhouse type building (sorry forgot to take a pic of the outside). They have over a hundred different species, indigenous and exotic all fluttering around in … Read entire article »
